OBVERSE

1940 Malaya KGVI $1 green P.4b ; Tan M8
The merchant ship SS Automedon was transporting the shipment of goods and provisions including the unissued $1 and $5 notes dated 1940 from England to Malaya was torpedoed during the war and sunk in the straits of Malacca. The very few surviving examples incidentally all Prefix A/8 were either washed ashore or picked up by fisher men, are hence very rare and highly desirable, thus making the unissued version of the banknotes rarer than the specimen banknotes which had arrived at the Malayan banks.
