| Here is a nice example of a series 1891 Treasury or "Coin" note since it was payable in "coin." What I find most interesting on this one is the language on the back which states, "This note is a legal tender at its face value in payment of all debts public and private except when otherwise expressly stipulated in the contract." Edwin Stanton appears on the front and the back is the second variety which is a lot plainer than the earlier version. |
